Cement tiles on older homes may contain asbestos.  If left untouched they can last many years.

These tiles are on the brittle side and can incur damage from impacts. When these tiles are disturbed, cracked, broken or removed asbestos particles may be released into the air.

When inhaled these particles may have severe health implications.
